The short version

Show a little of the life you enjoy now and the connection you would like to make. Specific is more useful than impressive.

A dating profile after 50 does not need to summarize your whole life or explain why you are single. Give someone a few true things to respond to. You are starting a conversation, not submitting a résumé.

01

Choose photos that look like you today

Use clear, recent photos where someone can tell which person you are. A simple portrait and a picture doing something you enjoy are a useful start. Keep heavy filters, old photos, and AI stand-ins out of the introduction. Your age does not need an apology.

02

Trade broad claims for everyday details

“I enjoy life” is hard to reply to. “I will take the scenic route for a good bakery” gives someone an opening. Name two or three real pleasures: a Sunday routine, music you like, a project, a place you enjoy walking. You do not need to invent adventurous hobbies.

03

Say what you are open to

Try a plain sentence about companionship, a relationship, or taking things slowly. If living separately, family commitments, or travel limits matter to you, describe what works without presenting a list of complaints about past dates.

04

Keep the private parts private

Leave out your street address, financial details, and identifying information about children or grandchildren. Avoid linking accounts that reveal more than you intend. Share personal history at a pace you choose; honesty does not require a public account of a divorce or bereavement.

05

Read it aloud once

Replace a phrase you would never say with one you would. End with an easy question: “What is somewhere nearby you keep meaning to visit?” If a friend helps edit, keep the words and photos recognizably yours.

If you are looking for a relationship

Happiest with a good book, a long lunch, or a walk that ends at a bakery. I would love a steady relationship with someone curious and kind, with room for our own interests too. What is a small thing you always make time for?

If you want to take it slowly

Trying this one conversation at a time. I like live music, cooking for friends, and exploring somewhere new close to home. Open to companionship and seeing where it goes. Tell me about a place you would happily visit again.
One small thing to try

Write three ordinary details a friend would recognize as you. Use two in your profile and turn the third into a question. The examples here are starting points to rewrite, not a personality to borrow.
